Hi, I'm Natasha. Having just finished a BA HONS degree in Textiles Design (specialising in surface design) I created a blog to share with you some of my work I did throughout my degree, also keeping you updated with how I'm keeping myself busy and creative after graduating. I will share my thoughts, inspirations and love for anything creative. In turn I hope they will interest others.

New Designers 2011

Broken Memories at New Designers

New Designers was a wonderful opportunity and very memorable experience.
Here are a few photos I took of my work on the BIAD stand and a short statement explaining my concept.

‘Experiences through life define us as a person,
Memories shared bond people together,
When all we know and who we know crumbles away, what are we left with?’
The collection is a documentation of a personal reaction to a family member’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, portraying the continual loss of data, personality changes, memory loss, aggression and confusion.
It is a recording of the continual and incremental deterioration; a series of work aiming to capture the passing of time, change, growth and decay.

This work also explores the idea of preserving and displaying a memory forever. Using a diverse use of materials and processes, that thoughtfully communicate the concept of Broken Memories.

Enjoy x

Celebrating my 22nd

It was my birthday last Saturday and 22 as all my friends keep pointing out is very old!! haha.
I didn't have any big celebrations for my birthday this year, just beacuse i've been so caught up with the degree show and developing my work for New Designers, it really just creeped up on me.  I'll be making up for it with a few glasses of wine with my girls very soon. :)

Although I didnt get dolled up this year and go party with my friends..... I did have a great if not random day.
My boyfriend is a drummer and had a gig at a small festival in Wales, so I decided to tag along. It was actually really fun, I saw 'We Are Scientists' and got to act like a teenager again.

Gotta love the festival vibes.

Thank you to my family and friends who sent me all the lovely cards, presents and birthday wishes. They made my day brighter.

Even though I think I found my first grey hair it was still an awesome day!

Private View

Last night was the private view of the Textile graduate degree show, at Birmingham City University.
I had a really lovely time showing family and friends my work that has occupied so much of my time for the past few months.
It was great seeing everyone together enjoying themselves, the wine, the cakes, most importantly enjoying our work.
A huge congratulations to everyone, the show looks fantastic.
For those who still haven't been it's still on this Friday and Saturday 10-5.

Also a huge thank you for all the kind and encouraging words, It really does mean a lot. :)

I'm just so grateful that i've been able to study something I love and am passionate about. :) Not everybody get the opportunity, also I cant think of anything worse than having to write essay after essay.  Heres hoping the hard work pays off.

good creative intentions

Last Wednesday me and my mom enrolled on a 10 week sewing class. I've always wanted to make my own clothes but only ever got as far as buying the fabric. So this is it!
We went into Birmingham this afternoon, had a pizza hut buffet and brought ourselves our first sewing projects.  We are both so excited. :)
After shopping around we got our patterns from House of Fraiser, 50% sale. The material from Fancy Silk Store and Barries, it was fabric galoreeeee. Finally an adorable Cath Kidston pin tin for £4 which every sewing box should have. :)

This is what we brought, I cant wait to get started.
In all it was a lovely day. :)
